Fact 1: No Army , since 1948

More good news for the Costa Rica environment is that of a report from ACAN-EFE, a newswire, who claim that Costa Rica’s imports of ozone gases had dropped significantly by 72% from 105 tons in 2004 down to 30 tons in 2007.

President Arias commented on the recent boosts to Costa Rica’s environmentally friendly image by saying that the nation was proud to be a leader at the forefront of environmental conservation.

Switzerland finished on top of the list with 2nd to 4th spots filled by Scandinavian countries Sweden, Norway and Finland respectively. Costa Rica were also ranked first out of all the Latin American countries for the Environment.

Costa Ricans report the highest life satisfaction in the world, have the second-highest average life expectancy of the Americas (second only to Canada) and have an ecological footprint that means that the country only narrowly fails to achieve the goal of ‘one-planet living’: consuming its fair share of the Earth’s natural resources
